I fight adult acne even at age 46. The trouble is that many over the counter acne products have harsh chemicals and are expensive. The occasional break out can be handled by some simple homemade remedies that will not overly dry your skin or cost you a fortune.

 1. Cleanse and live a healthy life style- There is no substitute for getting enough sleep and eating a healthy diet when it comes to maintaining the health of your skin. Cleansing is an import aspect of maintaining your overall skin health as well. Many people find that using a mild deodorant soap as a facial cleanser helpful in fighting the bacteria associated with acne.

2. Oatmeal is a great way to fight the oily skin that contributes to acne. It can actually be used in two ways. It can be used as a mask followed by a cold rinse to close pores or as as mild exfoliating  product to remove dead skin and remove excess oil.

3.Honey mixed with applesauce left of the face for twenty minutes is also a great mild mask that can close pores and sooth the appearance of redness of acne prone skin. Make sure you do not have food allergies to the things from your refrigerator that you use on your skin.

4. Certain herbs also have a beneficial effect on acne prone skin. Burdock, sarsaparilla, and yellow dock left on individual pimples over night can reduce their redness and overall size. Again, be sure to check for allergic reaction before covering you entire face with a specific herb. Tea tree has antiseptic properties that can also help in the case of sudden break out. The down size of tea tree oil is that many people find it has a rather unpleasant smell.

5. Good skin really does start from the inside out. Nutritionally you should be getting the proper amounts of  vitamin A,  B-6, and Zinc. If your diet is less than balanced you might want to consider using a multivitamin to be sure your skin is getting the nutrients that it needs to stay healthy.

 6. Other homemade remedies to reduce redness include using crush aspirin or tooth paste on individual pimples. Again, dependent on how sensitive your skin is these may be a way to give your skin a quick fix before school picture day.

Astringents are something that all people with oily skin should use . Many people simply use rubbing alcohol  , but for most people it really is too harsh and will cause irritation to the skin. Irritation  can cause the skin to produce more oil.  I have found to witch hazel to be a much better alternative to rubbing alcohol

Just because it stings does not mean a astringent is doing good things for your skin.

You can manage your acne prone skin by simply finding the best homemade remedies that work for your individual skin.
